A lot of people have problems with dizziness every once in a while, but we often forget about it. When dizziness happens often, lasts for a while, or is very severe, it is time to worry about it and get it checked out. Lucky, chiropractic treatment in Manhattan may help with your dizziness.
BACKGROUND:
Our chiropractic treatment in Manhattan found a study that determined exactly how common dizziness is, and the burden it carries on the population. This study examined 2,751 adults (50+ years) and used several measures for dizziness, hearing, tinnitus, and life quality. About 60% experienced a kind of vertigo. The researchers also noticed a relation between tinnitus and vertigo. Additionally, those with vertigo reported having a lower quality of life than those without dizziness/vertigo. This study is important because it shows the burden that dizziness and vertigo have on so many people, and its importance of being studied further.
CAUSES:
Some common causes of dizziness/vertigo include: benign paroxysmal positional vertigo, acute vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis, Meniere’s disease, migraine headaches, anxiety disorders, reduced blood flow to the brain/head (“vertebrobasilar ischemia”) and retrocochlear tumors. The risk of these increases with age.
TREATMENT OPTIONS:
Many vertigo cases do not require much testing and can be treated easily in the clinic or by chiropractic treatment in Manhattan. Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo and labyrinthitis can be most commonly treated in clinic. Chiropractic treatment in Manhattan will give exercises to reposition the “canaliths” or small stone like material in the inner ear.
Some other things you can do at home if you have vertigo would be to start a low salt diet and diuretics. Herbal options like dandelion, ginger, parsley, hawthorn, and juniper can all help without the side effects of prescription medications. Eating foods containing lots of potassium like bananas, avocados, raisins, beans, squash, mushrooms, potatoes, yogurt, and fish is a good idea when taking a diuretic.
Chiropractors can also give advice regarding this.
