Headaches affect about half of the population, so there’s a chance that you have experienced the pain of a headache in your lifetime. Perhaps you are experiencing pain right now. Did you know that around ¼ of headaches are cervicogenic headaches (CGH)? These headaches are referred from the cervical spine, and can be just as if even more painful than a migraine headache. If you think that you’re suffering from CGH, our Manhattan headache treatment may help you find relief.
There is no way to be fully positive if you have CGH unless you receive a professional assessment, but CGH patients suffer from neck tenderness, and stiffness that can appear in the arm. The pain is described as deep, but not throbbing. Pain may also appear in the occipital, temporal, frontal, or supraorbital locations. The pain episodes can last from hours to days. CGH is unilateral without side shift, but can also present bilaterally.
So now comes the question: what can I do to fix it? Manipulation will certainly help manage CGH, but our Manhattan headache treatment will work better with a multifaceted approach. These multifaceted approaches are as follows:
Assessment:
Our Manhattan headache treatment process will first do an assessment of the deep neck flexors. Things like upper cervical joint dysfunction, chronic muscular imbalance, and poor posture are all telling signs of CGH. They cause weakness in the deep neck flexors. A test may be done to see how much neck flexor strength you have.
Treatment:
After assessing your symptoms, we can treat you. Some research which we acquired says “The obliquus capitis inferior remains relatively immobile during traumatic events, like whiplash injuries, placing strain as a tethering point on the greater occipital nerve.” So in order to improve pain and function, we will use a combination of neural mobilization and soft tissue techniques.
Aftercare:
To keep up with managing your CGH pain, be sure to hold good posture and do the CGH specific exercises given by us for your Manhattan headache treatment. To learn these exercises, make an appointment with us. We are here to help you improve your pain and function.
If you are in pain, suffer from back pain, neck pain, headaches or whatever, come in and see us, we can help. We also accept insurance and would be delighted to help you out of pain. Call us today or Schedule an appointment.
