Tinnitus and Whiplash - the Link

Tinnitus and whiplash

Tinnitus is that annoying sound you may sometimes hear when it’s really quiet. Perhaps you can hear a distant high pitched sound or hissing in the absence of sound. That’s generally normal and while most people may not hear anything, some do. And others hear it much worse. For some, around 1 in 10 Americans, it is what they hear before anything else. It may be so loud that it can be heard over the shower or even the tv. In most cases, no one knows where the sound comes from and there is no known cure at present because it is a symptom of something else.

One of the known causes of tinnitus is from a whiplash injury. Another is concussion and in fact both concussion and whiplash share common symptoms and it led to a study being taken in 2015 to treat patients suffering with concussion in the same way as patients with whiplash injury, namely through cervical adjustments via chiropractic care.

All five patients after receiving this care reported an improvement, including any tinnitus they were suffering from. It help restore range of motion and lessened other symptoms such as neck pain.

In both the cases of whiplash and concussion, trauma is experienced and in these cases, chiropractic care may help reduce any tinnitus that resulted from the injury as chiropractic helps to restore the body back to its normal condition.

Because of this, tinnitus may be helped through chiropractic care, even if the original injury might not have been trauma induced.

If you have been suffering from tinnitus and you have found nothing has helped so far, chiropractic care may indeed help. If you want to try, come in and see us and we can examine you and see how we can help.
