Chiropractic care is one of our important services here in our New York Chiropractic clinic on the east side of the city. Chiropractic care is something that was first implemented by Daniel David Palmer who was nicknamed The Father of Chiropractic. His early theory that the mis-alignment of the bones was the underlying causes of disease. Indeed, even going back to the time of Hippocrates who himself stated “Look well to the spine for the cause of disease” that there has always been something that mankind has searched for within the bones and spine.
But let us press on, this article is to present some rather interesting facts and stats about chiropractic care and what it has done for the world today.
Well, firstly, what does chiropractic actually mean? The word chiropractic comes from the Greek cheir which means hand, and praktos which means done. So in other words, “Done by Hand”.
The chiropractic profession has seen the number of doctors practicing it rise to third, behind medical doctors (first) and dentists (second).
Chiropractors could easily relieve a huge amount of burden on Medicare, The Journal of the American Board of Family Medicine claims that if people went to chiropractic care instead of their regular doctor, Medicare could save some $83.5 million each year.
Chiropractic care treats some 27 million Americans each year and over a million adjustments are carried out on any business day. That’s a lot of cracks!
Chiodo, A. E. et al suggests that only 4 out of 10 Americans will actually seek chiropractic help, using their primary doctor instead. However, those that do seek chiropractic care, 90% of back pain cases are resolved within 4 weeks. No pills used either. Chiropractic needs to be better known.
And if you’re worried about safety, the Safety of chiropractic manipulation of the cervical spine: a prospective national survey (a major study in 2007) states that “the side effects of chiropractic treatment found that the risk of a serious adverse injury or injuries immediately or up to 7 days after treatment, was low to very low.” Compare that to the opioid crisis we see right now and the side effects of that.
It’s quite clear from these simple stats and facts that chiropractic treatments most certainly deserve a place in our arsenal of medical treatments. Chiropractic care does work and it’s most certainly here to stay.
