We often think of the big events in our lives as the defining moments. Things like graduating college or passing your driving test, or even getting married. Of course these are all important and significant events of anyone’s life, but when you look back in your memory banks, it’s often the small things that mean the most.
For example, my daughter reminded me of a picture she drew of me on a trip with her. This was actually the first time she had drawn a picture of us together and it made me realize these small things are important and this memory will likely be with her for the rest of her life as well as mine.
The big stick holding hands with the little stick finger as they walked along beach. I hardly even remembered the walk until she reminded me with the picture. So I took a picture of it and it’s now on my phone. I know I’ll never forget.
Memories are the most important thing we have. Those small things that happen for just a few moments of our lives that stay with us forever, we can never get back, but we can store them in our memories. They are what makes us unique.
So where am I going with all this? A patient recently came in and we were talking and he was telling me of plans he had to take his daughter skiing with him on a weekend trip up north. However, he had just sprained his MCL (which was the reason for his visit), and it was looking doubtful he would be able to go with her afterall.
With my daughter recently reminding me of our walk together, I knew how important it was for this father and daughter to go on this trip and form their own fond memory that would last for years to come.
We are therefore utilizing everything in our knowledge and tools to help make sure this memory happens. To this end, as part of his treatment, we have prescribed a Donjoy knee brace to help support his knee.
To try and help him as best we could, we ordered several different ones to provide him with the best fit and support. We did this to ensure that it would work with his ski boot as you can see in the image.
Sometimes our work at Back and Body isn’t getting an athlete ready to compete sometimes it’s is just to get them ready to make memories.
And at this time of year, it’s often good to be able to look back and reflect on memories of the past year along with memories that might not be as recent. After all, that’s what life is about, making those cherished moments.
