The Benefits of Spinal Adjustment for Low Back Pain

Chiropractic care has been around for over 100 years, but there are many people out there who continue to view my profession with a jaded eye.

For example, although most people have or will experience low back pain at some point in their lives, only 5 – 10% of Americans seek out spinal adjustment in any given year.  Some of this reluctance to visit a chiropractor is due to a general fear of visiting a healthcare professional.  But much of it is related to a distrust of the practice of chiropractic.

While it’s an uphill battle, I do everything in my power to dispel this distrust by delivering the best care I possibly can.  Word gets around and slowly, chiropractic is taking its place as a viable, effective, non-invasive solution to low back pain.

This post will share with you the benefits of spinal adjustment for low back pain.  If you’re reading this because you’ve been thinking about trying chiropractic, I’m glad you’re here and I hope the contents of this post will inform you.

Why the Spine?

The spine is the pillar of the body, but it also houses your central system.  And it’s here that dysfunction can turn to pain.

That’s one of the reasons spinal adjustment for low back pain is so effective.  Chiropractors are trained to have an intimate knowledge of the relationship between pain and the nervous system and to adjust the structures of the spine to relieve pressure on the nerves.

When your spine isn’t in proper alignment, your body’s systems of communication are interrupted.  Part of that is the natural ability of the body to heal itself.  Misalignments in the spine are also called “subluxations” and these disrupt the ability of your brain to talk to the rest of the body.

When you come to see me for an adjustment, I check your spine to see where things have gone awry.  When I find vertebrae which have moved (even subtly) out of position, I’m able to restore them to their proper place, which eases pressure on your nerves, relieving the pain.

This is usually achievable using the hands alone, but sometimes, I’ll employ other equipment to gently stretch the spine and allow your vertebrae to move back into position.

The Big Picture

Being a chiropractor means looking at the big picture.  Once I’ve worked with you for a while and you begin to experience the benefits of spinal adjustment for low back pain, we can talk about the future.

And that future, when you work with me, is all about getting you to the point at which your low back pain is no longer a problem. That’s my goal for all my patients.

But you play a part.

I may suggest lifestyle changes, like adding exercise to your life, or changing your diet.  So, the big picture is a partnership with you towards healing.

I invite you to come in and talk to me about spinal adjustment at Back & Body Medical.  Let’s get that spine aligned!
